Important Announcement from Dayna Shulack

To my valued clients, friends, family and colleagues,

After some very serious deliberation and about two years of debating within myself, I have decided to remove weddings from my list of services.
I very strongly feel that there comes a time for every photographer to realize where their true passion and talent lies. As an award winning portrait artist, I very passionately feel that I should be devoting my time and my business strictly to that art and no other. My passion is for working with people and taking time in creating the portraits I make. I do not feel that I am allowed that time, that my artistic drive is oppressed when I am responsible for a wedding.
That is not to say that I haven’t absolutely loved shooting all of your weddings over the years. I’ve shot elaborate and lavish weddings and I have done small quaint weddings based on simplicity. From one end of the spectrum to the other and everywhere in between, I have loved them all. I have met many amazing people, made some lifetime friends and I have helped in preserving memories that will be cherished for years and years to come. I thank  you all for letting me be a part of your special days, the joyful tears and the excited smiles. The nervous breaths and the chaos that often ensues during the preparations. All of it has been wonderful.
I will be partially finishing out my wedding season through November, while some of my booked events have been passed along to some extremely talented and accomplished wedding photographers that I have the pleasure of calling friends and colleagues. I will not be taking on any new wedding clients effective immediately.  I have been asked by some very close friends to cover their weddings over the next year or two and I have said yes, due to the fact that not only are they my closest friends, but that I will be less likely to feel burdened by a wedding when I only work one or two of them a year instead of my typical bookings by the dozens all year long.
By concentrating exclusively on portrait artistry, photo journalistic candid’s and fine art, I feel that not only am I being more true to myself as an artist, but that I am offering the absolute very best of me and what I do, to you. With my focus now on portraiture alone, I am extremely hopeful that our dream of having commercial space in Bridgton (and eventually opening a second location in North Conway) will become a reality. I, along with my assistants, students, friends, family and colleagues, will be working on getting this put into place over the winter and we are extremely hopeful to cut the ribbon on the doors of Dayna Shulack Photography early in the spring, right in my hometown of Bridgton.
Thank you all so very much for all of your support and business through the years. You, the public, chose me to shoot over forty of your weddings and unions just in the past 2 years alone.  You have all been amazing and I thank you, from the bottom of my heart for making Dayna Shulack Photography such a well known and respected business. My success as an artist, as a photographer, would mean nothing without all of you. I alone have not become recognized, I alone have not become one of the very few of Lake Region and Western Maine’s premier portrait photographers. I did it only with the help from you, my amazing clients. You have  helped me build this business and reputation and for that, I don’t think I could ever fully express my gratitude.
Starting immediately, the website and advertising will be strictly portrait art. That is not to say that my work will be limited to posed smiles in front of an institutional blue backdrop. And that certainly does not mean that I am not available or opposed to doing bridal portrait or engagement sessions before or after the wedding. I still love working with brides and couples, just in a concentrated environment for the sole purpose of portraits. Many clients choose to do bridal portraits before the wedding and I will be available for this service after you have prepared for your big day, so long as you allow at the very least, one hour to devote to your photos without outside distractions including having  any of your guests and family observing and taking photos of their own during your session. My portraits will remain of the same quality and caliber. Different, unique and true to the character of the client. All while remaining affordable with first rate quality and support.
If you have any questions, comments or would like to share your wedding story to be published on the website, I would love to hear what everyone has to say and answer any concerns any of you may have.
Remember, Dayna Shulack Photography is not going anywhere. I am simply sinking my heart and time into the field of photography that ignites a blaze of passion for me as an artist.  And I cannot wait to share in it with all of you.
Thank you all so much!

Dayna Shulack

Thank you Dayna!

We wanted to take the time to write to you after hearing that you were no longer shooting weddings and express how much we loved our wedding photos. For months I've been meaning to write a testimonial for your website, but you know how life goes. One thing leads to another and you've forgotten what you wanted to do! I also had a hard time with coming up with the words to express how much we loved our pictures. It seems now really is the time to try and share that with you.
We look through our wedding album all the time. We entertain at our home a lot and we're always showing people our photos that you took and they are always amazed at how beautiful and natural they are. Just from showing your album, we've had 3 friends call and book with you for their own weddings and unions and even though I cannot speak FOR them, I can tell you that they have been just as happy with your work as we are. We spent months and months looking for the perfect photographer who would capture the true essence of "us" and you did it perfectly. So many "photographers" out there just tell you to stand and smile or to give each other a little kiss. You worked with us. You saw what made us special to each other and you nailed it with that huge and impressive Nikon of yours. (My guests still talk about how big your camera was haha!) We tell people that you're not just a photographer. We tell them that you are an artist. And that is exactly what you are. Anyone can hold a camera in their hands and call themselves a photographer, but it takes a real, genuine ARTIST to create the pictures that you create. I never really realized how much goes into a shoot or a wedding, I never really realized that it's so much more than just pressing a button until we worked with you. You changed my whole idea of what photography is supposed to be.
Thank you again, for everything. Your hard work. Your honest ways of doing business. Your talent and your kindness. For sharing your art with the world. For being available whenever we needed you and doing it all at a cost we could afford. There are not enough words to thank you for everything that you did for us. We wish you the best in opening a commercial space and we look forward to having our 1 year anniversary portraits done with you. I'm hopeful to make that session a maternity session as well :) One day at a time though right?!
Dayna, thank you so much and congratulations on everything! We hope Kaia has a great first school year!

Dear Dayna,

When I first found out that you were not shooting weddings anymore, I thought that you were closing your business! I rushed to find your number to get in one more portrait shoot with my kids before you closed! Thankfully you're not closing and I cannot tell you how relieved I am to know that you are still available for portraits. I think that many people in the future are losing an amazing artist to shoot their weddings. I know that I could not have been more happy with my wedding pictures and I know for a fact that not one other photographer in this state would have given me the style and quality I wanted. You knew exactly what I wanted and you were so good at making my husband to be feel comfortable with not only the planning and price, but being in front of the camera as well. (Since he hates it so much!)
Dayna thank you so much, for all the wonderful memories you have captured for us. They mean so much to us and I hope some day you reconsider adding weddings to your service list again because we think you're the best in the biz!
Your portraits can't be beat! I've spent hours looking at other photographers galleries online and none of them are as unique or artistic as yours. We LOVE them. For every step in our lives and for every milestone in our children's lives, we hope to have you there documenting it all with your talented eye.
THANK YOU SO MUCH DAYNA!
